On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater instructor, Matthew De Starkey, tweeted a photo of himself posing as a Chinese coolie: squinty eyes, a makeshift straw hat (wooden bowl), with hands pressed in mock prayer.

This article is written in response to a data chart created by Karthick Ramakrishnan and Janelle Wong titled, “Asian American Support for Affirmative Action,” which attempts to attribute an alleged decline in support for affirmative action to Chinese Americans.
